The Blue Witch Book Two of the Chronicles of Eledon eBook Joni Parker

I knew I wanted to read The Blue Witch the moment it mentioned King Arthur, and the part about the Holy Grail. Going up, I was obsessed with the stories of Camelot, and all those brave knights riding out and trying to find the Holy Grail. So when I had the chance to read this book, I jumped at the opportunity.

This book is the second book in a series, the first being Spell Breaker. I didn’t read Spell Breaker, though, and I could follow the story well enough. Maybe I missed a few details here and there that I would’ve known if I had read book one, but that didn’t keep me from enjoying the story.

Joni Parker has an easy writing style, that effortlessly transports the reader to an imaginative world, and brings to life various characters, the most important one being Alex. Alex is one of the most intriguing characters I’ve read about as of late – she’s a witch, also trained as a soldier, and she’s the Keeper of the Keys for the Council of Elders. More than that, she’s an interesting person, intelligent, resourceful, brave.

The dialogue flows well, the story is imaginative and detailed but still fast-paced, and the characters are intriguing and complex. I don’t want to give too much away about the plot, but this book has it all: elves, witches, magic, war. I would recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys fantasy. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Blue Witch Book Two of the Chronicles of Eledon eBook Joni Parker Reviews

This is the first book I have read by this author. I was first drawn to this book by the stunning cover that I had to check this book out. Yet, I did not realize it was part of a series/trilogy. However, I had no issues jumping right into this book. I did not feel like I had missed anything by not having read the first book. Which, I do plan to check out as I enjoyed this book so much and the worlds that the author built of Avalon, Eledon, the elves, and the rest of the characters as well.

Alex is a great heroine. She is a leader. There was a bit of a romance brewing in this story but it was not distracting at all. I am a fan of romance when it works nicely into the story without being overpowering or it seems forced. This is a very, quick read. I can't wait to see if Alex defeats Sawgrass once and for all.
I started this series one night thinking I would most likely DNF it, but after chapter one I was intrigued. I am not one that normally picks up Fantasy, but when I get in the mood for one I will devour it. I was a little overwhelmed knowing this is a four book series as I normally do not read that much fantasy in a row.

One thing I really loved about Alex is that she was half human. The author really sets up her character and starts the world building right from the start. Sometimes the worlds in fantasy can be too complex and confusing, but I had no trouble following along in this one which is important to my interest in the story. I am also a fan of elves in books as I feel its rare (at least in the books I have read).

I have seen others say you can read the series as a whole or as standalones. However; I definitely recommend starting with book one. I think it just brings something to the characters and the story. Book two starts off right from the start as well, which is something I am really appreciating from the author. She has the ability to grab your attention and pull you into her worlds. When you finish book two, be read to jump right into book three.

I love that this series continues to follow Alexin. I am also surprised that I actually read all of these back to back so far. I thought I would need a break from the genre, but I am very invested with the story and characters at this point. I loved all of the drama as it made it very fast paced and made me want to continue to read.

I cannot believe it is over. It was a wild ride, and I am so glad I gave this series a chance. If you love high fantasy, wizards, elves, and magical worlds you need to check out this series. Take it from a non-fantasy lover when I say I really enjoyed everything about this series!
"The Blue Witch" is the second book in the "Chronicles of Eledon" series by Joni Parker. When I received a copy of the book for an honest review, I didn't know at first that it was part of a series. Mostly I was drawn to the fact that the description mentioned King Arthur (because I'm a nerd like that) and the other fantastical elements that were mentioned.

The book was a bit hard at first, and it took me a while before I was able to get into the story enough to sit down and read it for long periods of time. I think the reason for this was because I did not read the first book, so I had a lot of things to catch up on. First, it's a fantasy novel so there's a whole world that Parker created that I had to learn, and also who the characters were and how they related to each other. For the most part, I was able to figure out what was going on, and got an idea of what happened in the first book, making it an easier read.

As I said, a big part of the book's appeal to me was that King Arthur would make an appearance. However, it wasn't what I imagined since he wasn't portrayed like the King Arthur who was fair and just, but instead was a witch hunting King and one of the antagonists to Alex, our main character. It was a bit of a disappointment, but since the King Arthur story only featured in a small portion of the book, it wasn't too distracting.

There was also a lot going on during "The Blue Witch". Alex was on the hunt for the Holy Grail for King Arthur, trying to figure out how to do her new job as Keeper of the Keys for the Council of Elders, and also figure out who was trying to steal one of those keys and start a war among the elves. Too be honest, it was probably a bit too much going on. While in the elf world of Elderon, Alex is mostly focusing on her Keeper duties as well as trying to prevent a civil war, and the hunt for the Holy Grail gets somewhat pushed aside. When it is mentioned, it seems like it's out of the blue and just put in at random intervals. I think it would have worked better without the King Arthur subplot, but that's just my opinion.

I honestly believe that I would have been better off if I had started the series from the beginning, instead of jumping in on book two. There were a lot of mentions to what happened before, as well as some things that carried over, so it would have been easier to understand if I had begun at the start.

If you're interested in fantasy, elves, quests, fights, or all of the above. This might be a book for you. However, take my advise and start from the beginning with book one of "The Chronicles of Eldon".
