Welcome to Frost High; I bet you’ve heard about or currently may be attending. Small school, lots of secrets, a popular mean girl, Pepper Fox, and of course a few outcasts--Tomie Dupuy, Sarifena Green, and Opal Dawn--who all shined on Pepper’s tormented list, since junior high. Opal shined the brightest. Tomie, Sari, and Opal made a pact and traveled to Monroe Creek, Louisiana with the goal to end their torment in an untraditional way. Sometimes things don’t end up, as we wish. Fate always possesses a way to redirect everything. Will they finally find the solution to their agonizing problem or will all spiral out of control, as they never anticipated? “Be Careful What You Wish For…” "Doll is a frightening 5 star read with enough scary voodoo magic to give just the right amount of twists and turns." ~Brandy Corona, best-selling author of Midnight Outbreak~

My assumptions from the book's cover were dispelled in two ways: 1) The protagonist is not a girl. Thus, I got to learn of high schooler Tomie Dupuy, his particular situation with his parents, and his relationship with his peer Sarifena Green. 2) This novel has way less to do with, say, the movie "Annabelle," and far more with voodoo culture. There's no high action, yet this does qualify as horror; I even picked up on Stephen King's "Carrie" as an inspiration.

My favorite character here is a relative of Tomie -- she lives in bayou country not far from the narrator's Texas town, and has generational (and apparently spiritual) ties with a nearly mythic Louisiana personage. This family connection serves as a backdrop to how the paranormal comes into play. Early hints of a supernatural theme come additionally from another of Tomie's peers -- Opal Dawn – who, with seeming reluctance, accepts his and Sarifena's friendship.

My only critique: I noticed two brief instances of an undoubtedly accidental switch from first-person perspective to third-person. Depictions of bullying, enabled by social status, were painful for me to read, yet these were integral to the story and its theme of vengeance's heavy price. Interestingly, the novel offered two endings; the original is my favorite, yet I appreciated how the second provided a character angle that I would've otherwise not picked up.

This book was amazing!!
I enjoyed reading this novel. It kept me reading for more. It has good suspense and good drama. It's a good read for teens and adults. The characters are real you can relate to them. The story is real. I recommend this novel because we can all relate to the characters. The novel left me cheering for what is right. This book has a great beginning and ending. You will enjoy this read and it will leave you wanting more. Good job Miracle.
I loved this suspenseful debut from Miracle Austin. I won a paperback copy and after reading it had to add it to my kindle library and leave a review. The story reminds me of an awesome combo of The craft, Carrie and Goosebumps all rolled in one. I love how the main character is a guy instead of your typical popular girl vs awkward shy girl or bully vs weaklings. I also love the alternate endings and how the author openly welcomes our input and suggestions. I for one hope to see a sequel and many more storys from miracle in the future.
This book is a perfect example of why one should treat others how one wants to be treated and things are not always what they seem lol. Even though the main character is a male teen it's the powerful females in this book that help shape who he ends up to be. Paranormal, horror, suspense , teen drama and an unexpected ending all wrapped into one great read!! Can't wait for book 2!
Doll by Miracle Austin is an entertaining story, chock full of twist and turns. The story told in first person narrative is about Tomie, Sari, and Opal a group of young adults who are bullied by their boss Pepper. However, this is no run of the mill bully story as the group of kids decide to take Pepper on by using voodoo/witchcraft.

As a "New Orleanor," I was thrilled to learn that the main character, Tomie, is the cousin of Lisette a descendant of New Orleans Voodoo priestess Marie Laveau. This book was a lot of fun to read and I think teens will enjoy it.
Having already read some of the authors short stories, I couldn't wait to dive into Doll! And it didn't disappoint! The book wastes no time in introducing you to the three main characters Tomie, Sari, and Opal. As the blurb mentions, they all have had their fair share of bullying from Pepper Fox, and the trio is looking for revenge. Think if the movie Mean Girls were a horror movie (and I mean that in a GOOD WAY!) and that is what Doll is, and so much more!

This book has a sweet, coming of age story, mixed in with some really creepy horror scenes. Magic, voodoo, witches & warlocks...that is just a taste of what you'll see in this engaging tale. The ending had a twist I certainly did not see coming, and I would love to see a sequel from the author in the future!

Love, revenge, betrayal, horror, magic...what are you waiting for? Buy this book!!! The phrase on the front couldn't be more true Be careful what you wish for!
This is one of those reads that pulls you in. You care about the characters even as it hints at secrets each may possess. In Doll, this is what Miracle has done.
Doll addresses in fictional format what extremes kids may do in abusive peer pressure environments. It explores the attitudes of those involved whether they appear to be on the receiving end or not.
Miracle lays out a well-written story, showing the growth of each character. She reveals their true natures in turns and twists throughout the book.
While I could go on and give you details of the story, read the sample and decide for yourself. The author does have two endings and ask the reader to choose which one they like the most. I prefer the first. If you like great reads, this one is a must.
And by the way, after you read her book, please leave a review. She will thank you for it.
